Here is a list of four essential equipments a DJ must have
· A DJ mixer
- A DJ mixer is the central component of the whole DJ set. The main role of the mixer is to control the frequencies of the sounds (high, middle and low pitch sound), adjust the output volume, and most importantly switch the playing music from one turntable to the other.
- I recommend a simple 2 channel mixer, nothing fancy. Reloop mixer’s suit a budget and are great value for the money.
· Two CD players/turntables
- CD player/turntables basically play the tune how the DJ wants to (ie: faster/slower/in sync with the other turntables speed). You only require two turntables to operate a DJ gear system and I recommend sticking with only two, leaving the four turntables at a time for the big boys.
- A solid reliable CD player I have personally used is the Pioneer CDJ-200. It has 3 effects which broaden the creative capacity of the Disk Jockey.
· Headphones
- Headphones are attached to the Dj mixer, they enable the DJ to listen to a turntable playing a song with 0 volume (so the crowd does not hear it playing and the DJ can sync the upcoming tune) while the other turntable is playing the music that the crowd does hear.
- Any pair of headphones will do of course, but look for one which blocks out background noise so you can concentrate much clearer
· A monitor
- A monitor is generally a small speaker directed at the DJ so he/she can hear what is playing much clearer, I recommend this for all bedroom DJ’s for practice.
How much to spend on each item?
· DJ mixer – nothing over $400
· Two CD Players – $250 to $500 each
· Headphones – $50
· A small monitor – $100
Remember, there are also package deals out there which can give you turntables and a mixer for a better price then buying the pieces separately.
